Don’t F**K With Cats
Don't F**K With Cats
I watch A LOT of movies, documentaries, short films, and TV series and it’s not often that I find something that both interested and bothered me enough to write about it. That was until last night when I climbed into bed and flipped to my Netflix app on my TV. As usual, they are promoting whatever their new releases are and this time it was a 3-part documentary series called “Don’t F**K With Cats”. At first glance I had no idea what the premiss of this series was going to be, was it going to be comical and talk about cat ladies? Was it going to be people who are obsessed with cats? But then once I saw the second part of the title “Hunting An Internet Killer” it grabbed my attention even more. You see, some of my favorite shows to watch are things like The First 48, Forensic Files, Evil Lives Here, Homicide Hunter and basically all the shows on A&E, Oxygen, and Discovery I.D. Honestly, I find them to be very disturbing but also in a weird way, educational. Educational in the sense that it helps to see people in a different light and perhaps understand them and learn personality traits to look out for when dating someone new or even just making new friends.
So I quickly read over the synopsis of the series and learned that it was about a group of people who didn’t know each other but quickly formed a bond after being exposed to the first of several films that were launched on the internet. I don’t want to spoil too much of the story, so I’ll just say what most of the descriptions say, the group formed after they watched a video in which a young male kills two kittens and then joked about it. It became their mission to hunt him down and turn him into the authorities. Without saying any more than that, this is just the first video this individual releases on the web as his thirst for blood only increasingly gets worse.
Having seen so many shows and documentaries about sociopaths and killers over the years, I’ve seen my fair share of them that have been done very poorly and made it difficult to both follow and understand the story and the message. However, this one was done really well, which is what sucked me in even more and I found myself binge-watching all three episodes back to back. It’s sad and sickening that we live and walk amongst some of the most vile people and on the surface, you might never even realize it.
So if you LOVE animals, this one may be tough to watch but at the same time, you may enjoy it because you would most certainly identify with the group that began hunting him down. If you like any of the shows I mentioned earlier, then you will probably like it as well. It both amazes me and saddens me that we have so much television programming based around this type of content but at the same time, I think it opens our eyes to how much violence is really going on around us out there and it’s better to be informed instead of being naive about it.
If you decide to check out the series, comment on this BLOG afterward and let me know what you thought of it.
