Reacting to Can I Freestyle My Way Out Of A Speeding Ticket

The title of this Harry Mack video immediately reminds me of an old job. I worked for a defensive-driving company on two separate occasions, so before we start, I give my former employer a quick shout-out and explain that it is not a sponsorship.

Then Harry takes the premise in a very different direction: an imagined traffic stop becomes a story he can rap his way through.

A freestyle inside the traffic-stop story

Harry builds the scene from the driver’s perspective, following the nervousness of being pulled over and waiting for the officer to approach. The part that makes me pause is where the character asks the officer for three words.

I love that choice. Harry has turned the suggestion into a full story, and now he is bringing his familiar freestyle setup into the story itself. The officer becomes another potential listener for an improvised performance.

My reaction at the end is that this one is funny. The appeal is in watching Harry develop the scenario and find a way to make his own approach to performing part of the joke.

A connection to Freestyle Inception

There is a follow-up worth watching with this clip. In my reaction to Freestyle Inception, Harry refers back to the traffic-stop freestyle and explores the idea of rapping about a rap inside another rap.

Seeing that connection makes the two videos a fun pair. This one establishes the story; the next takes the nested idea further.
