This reaction to Harry Mack’s “Colors” freestyle starts with me making a quick judgment—and then changing my mind.

At first, I read the woman’s body language as distant. I say that I might have skipped the encounter. Almost immediately, though, I notice the energy changing and correct that first impression. Watching the interaction develop becomes one of the things I enjoy most about this clip.

Three prompts and another encounter with orange

The listener introduces herself as a music director and offers beatbox, animals, and colors as the suggestions. Harry has plenty to work with, and I follow the different directions he takes those words.

Orange catches my attention again. I have seen him find ways to handle that word in other performances, and I comment on how he keeps doing it. It is one of those details I look forward to when familiar challenges return in a different freestyle.

That does not tell me everything about what she was thinking. It does remind me how quickly I can make an assumption while watching a short exchange. Here, staying with it gives me a performance and a reaction that I enjoy.
