I am drawn in early by the way Leon builds the music in layers. Watching someone put those parts together is something I find fascinating, and it sets up a collaboration that really gets to me.

It feels like a finished song

After hearing them together, I say I have had goosebumps through much of the performance. Leon already has his song written, and Harry adds his contribution after hearing the idea behind it.

What impresses me is how complete the result feels. I say I could imagine hearing it on the radio. I am describing my response to the song—the feeling that these parts fit together as a performance I would want to hear again.

The delivery sounds heartfelt to me. That emotional impression is part of why I connect with it so strongly.

The musical memories it brings up

I spend a while trying to place the familiar quality I hear in Leon’s sound. Eventually, I name Counting Crows and Blues Traveler as the associations coming to mind.

Those are my listening comparisons. I do not know whether either influenced Leon; they are the artists this performance makes me think about.
