One of the things I've learned from doing Ghost Texas investigations is that sometimes the footage gets more interesting when you watch it again months later. That's exactly why Patrick, Marcos and I sat down to revisit Four Winds Victorian, a bed-and-breakfast in Bonham, Texas.
This isn't a new investigation. We're going back through the one we already filmed and talking through what we remember, what the cameras picked up, and what still doesn't make sense to us. Our teammate Morgan was part of that original investigation, even though this particular ATI conversation is the three of us.
If you missed the original, watch our Four Winds investigation first. It makes the follow-up a lot easier to follow.
We heard something before we even got started
While we were interviewing a guest on the second floor, several of us heard what sounded like someone moving quickly above us. Patrick wondered if it might be thunder. I remember the sound seeming especially strong near the stairs, but that doesn't tell us what actually made it. In the ATI, we look at the room layout and revisit another recording that sounds like footsteps.
The lamp I didn't even know about at the time
Some of the most interesting things we find don't get discovered until we're reviewing hours of camera footage. That was the case with a touch-operated lamp that appeared to activate when nobody was standing by it. We brought the lamp into the discussion to show how it's supposed to cycle. We also talk about a later device response that we heard as “I did.” It's a curious combination, but that doesn't mean we know who or what caused anything.
That cough, the voices and the bedroom door
We replay a recording that sounded to us like a child coughing, plus voice-like sounds that we couldn't agree on. Was it “get out,” “get back,” or something else? I want viewers to listen rather than just take our interpretation.
Then there's that bedroom door. We discuss how it was shut, the bells on the handle, and whether air conditioning pressure might have caused it to open. We also revisit the staircase recording and some shadow-like movement we noticed on video. I talk about another dark shape I thought I saw pass across a doorway, but that wasn't captured on camera. A personal experience and evidence on film aren't the same thing.
Trying something different with the Red Card Method
I explain why we started using numbered red cards with questions written on them. When we're doing Estes sessions or using other equipment, we can fall into asking the same questions all night. Drawing a card gives us a different prompt. We also revisit phrases and names that came through devices and discuss a funeral home nearby. Those connections are theories, not confirmed answers.
One last surprise while packing up
At the very end of the investigation, a camera on a mini tripod fell while we were gathering equipment. We show where it was set and explain why we thought it was stable. It was sitting on a mattress, though, so I can't claim we ruled out a normal explanation. There's even an unexpected moment involving a piece of chocolate on the floor.
I still don't have a definite answer for a lot of what happened at Four Winds, and I'm fine admitting that. It's why we do these review episodes in the first place. Watch the ATI on YouTube and tell us what you think. You can also see the companion take at Ghost Texas and the broader video coverage on Paranormal Unknown after the releases.
