31 Days of Horror
With October approaching, it’s time for me to start preparing for my tradition of 31 Days of Horror! It’s hard for me to remember exactly how long ago I started this tradition but I at least know that it goes back more than 15 years. So what exactly is this tradition that I’m speaking of? It’s really quite simple, I watch a different horror movie every day of October. I started this tradition because Halloween is my favorite holiday and horror is my favorite movie genre. Finding the time to watch a movie every single day for a month can sometimes prove to be a little challenging, but even more challenging is deciding WHAT movies to watch. There are a handful of movies that I watch every year but I also try to mix in some newer movies as well.
Some of my favorites that I watch every year are The Shining, The Exorcist, Original of The Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning, Original of Poltergeist, Original of Friday the 13th, Original of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2, The Devil's Rejects, 30 Days of Night, Candyman 1 and 2, When a Stranger Calls, and Thir13en Ghosts. Now there may be a few I left off by mistake but these are the ones that I more or less watch every year. Just in case you weren’t counting, that is 17 movies so far. So I need to find at least 14 more, which shouldn’t be too hard because I already have a list of over 100 horror movies below. While I may have called this blog entry “31 Days of Horror” because of the number of days in the month of October, that doesn’t mean I can’t watch MORE than 31 movies, bwahahaha. More often than not, I usually end up watching closer to 50 horror movies in October because some of them are a collection of anywhere from 2-10 movies (i.e. The Conjuring Universe, Friday the 13th Collection, etc) and I’ll watch several of them back to back in one sitting.
If you’re up for the challenge to 31 Days of Horror as well, the list below should be a good starting point for you. Obviously there are probably TONS of movies I didn’t put on the list. So comment below and tell me some of YOUR favorites that you don’t see on the list, so I can make sure to check them out if I haven’t already done so, and I’ll also add them to this list!
I know everyones version of "horror" might vary from one person to another. For me, horror isn’t limited to just slasher films like Jason and Freddy but also paranormal type movies, psychological thrillers and sometimes even horror-comedy. So don’t get overly critical of some of the movies you see on this list and if they fit into your version of horror.
On the list below, if you click on the year beside the movie title, it will take you to IMDB so you can get the full description of the movie. And if you click on the actual movie title itself, it will take you to Amazon to in case you want to purchase it on DVD/Blu ray or even rent it from Amazon. Some of these titles might be available to stream on Sling TV, Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, Screambox or Shudder, so don’t forget to check there too.
